Fossil Lake Safari Guide

Enjoy yourself this summer with an inspiring career in Wyoming’s outdoors! We are looking for additional quarry staff to help assist visitors throughout their fossil digs. We are hiring for multiple seasonal positions for the summer of 2024. This is a full-time, 40 hours per week position at our quarry 30 minutes from Kemmerer. Positions are seasonal and will run from late May through September. Folks available for shorter time periods are also encouraged to apply. Employees would need to be available on weekends, as they are the busiest times for the quarry. This is great for college students home on summer break and folks who are passionate about fossils. Might work well for retired rockhounds who want to bring their RV to town for the summer. Preference to applicants local to the Kemmerer area.

  • Pay is $20+/hr DOE.
  • Share of pooled tips from customers.
  • Potential bonuses if employees find rare specimens while digging.
  • Employees can share dig outside of work hours if they want to keep fossils.

You are: Able to balance customer needs with business goals and know how to deliver great customer service to enhance our customers’ enjoyment. Dependable, with great teamwork skills, you never stop learning and desire to find solutions to unique challenges. You will have a direct impact on improving our customer experience by ensuring they receive accurate instruction & encouragement while digging fossils. For all seasonal positions, preference will be given to applicants who are professional while providing excellent customer service.

Together we’ll be: A passionate team of individuals working to deliver an amazing fossil adventure. Working collaboratively as part of the Fossil Lake Safari team, you will be a key part of each visitor’s vacation experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Primarily assisting and monitoring visitors, answering their questions.
  • Showing visitors how to find fossils.
  • Checking people in.
  • Helping people carry, cut down and wrap specimens.
  • Making sure visitors follow safety rules.
  • Will rotate tasks throughout the day.
  • General maintenance work including picking up trash, sorting and cleanup of rock piles, keeping restrooms clean.
  • Helping to break down rocks that are too large for customers to handle.
  • During slow times employees will help to collect fossils for the quarry.

Qualifications

  • Dependable & reliable.
  • Great customer service skills and a positive attitude.
  • Passionate about fossils.
  • Great teamwork skills.
  • Comfortable working outdoors. You will be out in the elements the majority of the day. Quarry is at 7,300 ft elevation and it gets hot in the summer.
  • Fossil collecting experience in Green River Formation preferred by not necessary.
  • Need to be able to physically carry rock weighing at least 50 lbs. Job will involve a lot of physical labor.
  • Experience with heavy equipment such as a backhoe or skid steer is a HUGE plus, and would increase starting pay.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be at least 16 years of age.

Fossil Lake Safari Quarry Manager

Enjoy yourself this summer with an inspiring career in Wyoming’s outdoors! We are looking for an experienced quarry manager to ensure smooth operations for both quarry employees and visitors here for fossil digs. This is a seasonal position for the summer of 2024. This is a full-time, 40 hour per week position at our quarry 30 minutes from Kemmerer. The Manager position will run from mid-late May through September. Managers would need to be available on weekends, as they are the busiest times for the quarry. This is a great position for folks who are passionate about fossils and have experience managing a team. Preference to applicants local to the area.

  • Pay is $25 to $35/hr DOE.
  • Share of pooled tips from customers.
  • Potential bonuses if employees find rare specimens while digging.
  • Employees can share dig outside of work hours if they want to keep fossils.

  • Helping to break down rocks that are too large for customers to handle.
  • Ensuring that staff knows how best to assist visitors in finding fossils.
  • Ensuring that staff knows how to help visitors cut down and wrap specimens.
  • Making sure employees & visitors follow safety rules.
  • Sorting and cleaning up of rock piles.
  • During slow times employees will help to collect fossils for the quarry.
