The closest towns to the Fossil Lake Safari are Kemmerer and Diamondville, about 20 minutes away.  These are small towns with a combined population of about 3,000, so your options are limited.  There are half a dozen hotels and motels located here, but these tend to fill up fast during the summer months.  We would recommend booking as far ahead as possible, to make sure you have a room.  We recommend the Best Western Plus Fossil Country Inn And Suites followed by the Antler Motel.  After that the quality starts to decline pretty quickly.

Camping & RV Options Near Fossil Lake Safari

Planning to camp during your fossil digging trip? While camping and overnight RV parking are not allowed on Fossil Lake Safari property, there are many options in the Kemmerer area for tent campers, RV travelers, and self-contained dry campers.

The quarry is located about 20 minutes northwest of Kemmerer, Wyoming, and the surrounding high-desert landscape includes large areas of public BLM land. Many visitors with self-contained rigs choose to dry camp on nearby public land before or after their dig. Please be sure to follow all posted rules, check current BLM regulations, avoid creating new campsites, pack out everything you bring in, and be aware of seasonal fire restrictions.

For visitors who prefer developed amenities, the Kemmerer-Diamondville area offers RV parks and campgrounds with services such as hookups, restrooms, picnic areas, and access to fishing or boating. Nearby options include Base Camp RV Park, Riverside RV & Mobile Home Park, Buffalo Pass RV Park, Foothills RV Park, Cowboy Joe RV Park, Aspen Acres RV Park, Hams Fork Campground, Fontenelle Creek Recreation Area, Slate Creek Campground, and other public-land campgrounds in the broader region.

Whether you choose an RV park in town or a primitive dry camping spot on public land, we recommend making your plans before heading to the quarry. Cell service can be limited in the area, and conditions on dirt roads can change quickly with weather.
